Discovering the Potential of Sophisticating Project Management Competency through Project Management Standards – A Case Study in the German Plant Engineering Industry

Jan Christoph Albrecht*
Abstract
The paper at hand identifies project management standards relevant for German plant engineering industry and actual state of project management competency within a company of this branch. The standards are extracted applying certain criteria. In a following step, an intersection of topics treated in the chosen standards is determined in terms of a synopsis. Actual state of project management competency within the company is then compared to the structures explained in the standards. The as-is-assessment is methodologically carried out applying a single case study. It is then said in what way the introduction of standardised project management structures in the company could help to sophisticate its project management competency in order to increase probability of successfully completed projects in the future.
